Bent. Not broken

I’m 15 years old, I’m a sister, friend, cousin, athlete, daughter(obviously), quessadilla/cheesecake/pie lover and obsessed runner. I’m a national champion in the 2000 m and a two time national medalist, I’ve held and broken several provincial records for Alberta track and field. My goals for 2015 were to make team Canada for the world youth championships. I really believed I could do it. Some people would argue that I peaked too early, or that a burn out was inevitable, but I thought I had it all planned out until my dreams came crashing down in March 2014 when I injured my knee while skiing. I’m currently still coming out of my injury and getting back to running.

Later that September I was diagnosed with severe scoliosis. I know nobody has it easy. I’ll be blogging about the ups and downs of my journey and I hope I can inspire you to dream big and never give up. Alwaus remember, if you can take it, you can make it.

This is my story

  1. Hi. Your posts are amazing. I hope you recover fully to get back to running pain free.
I found yoga helps with my cervical spondylosis, maybe there could be some relief for your scoliosis as well?

  2. Hey there– I also have pretty bad scoliosis; wore a back brace all through high school. I do a lot of yoga, as well, and it definitely helps, but a word to the wise: be careful with yoga! With our twisty backs, it’s easy for us to go too far in a position and not even realize, making injury a higher than usual possibility. I recommend getting a foam roller! I just got one last month, and it helps immensely. I use it at least twice a day to ease my back pain and roll out sore muscles.

  3. Thanks for the inspiration. Take care with that knee – I had keyhole surgery last year to remove a piece of bone that had been floating around in the joint for 19 years and had prevented me running – great now! My last half marathon was in 1983, so the training is hard at present, but your story of determination is a real motivator. Thanks.
